Burger King India is trying to convince Indian consumers to pre-order their Whoppers. According to the Wall Street Journal, the chain — which will open its first location in India later this week — is allowing customers to "pre-book its Whoppers via online marketplace eBay." Burger King announced last week that in place of the standard beef patty, it would be selling chicken, lamb, and vegetable versions of its signature Whopper sandwich in India, due to the majority of the country's religious practices.
Through tomorrow, eager Whopper enthusiasts can purchase a Whopper for a discounted price of 128 Rupees ($2.08 USD). Sadly, that does not mean that customers can order burgers to be delivered to their door. Instead, the online eBay purchases get diners a voucher to use at a Burger King location only on November 9. During the time of redemption, they'll also get a free "limited edition" T-shirt. Some have pointed out that the promotion is pointless, aside from the slight discount and the free shirt that comes with each burger pre-order. Even with the skepticism, Burger King India's eBay page notes that the chain has already sold 540 chicken sandwiches, 280 veggie Whoppers, and 380 lamb Whoppers.
